NCT 127 - Cherry Bomb MV [Review]

NCT is an interesting concept. I know I haven't been on top of my music reviews or anything for that matter but the NCT initiative has always intrigued me. It has the potential to be super successful for SM Entertainment, but it also has potential to blow up in their faces. I'm going to be taking a look at the NCT-127 sub unit's most recent Music Video for their latest song Cherry Bomb. So join me as we look at if this single has what it takes to draw in views during its first 24 hours after release.

the only reason it even gets 3 is because I love the dance break at the end

Ok so this video is weird. There are parts of it I love. Such as the over all dance and the sets SM used. Sadly though, that's all I can handle and I would have preferred they only do a performance version instead of what we were actually given. This MV is just a mash up of...honestly I don't know what. It's got your typical dance breaks and individual member shots, but then they toss in the most atrocious stage outfits, random ATVs, helicopters and pixelated graphics. The more I watch it the more I'm confused because I keep looking for some sort of plot, but there is none. Maybe if I read the lyrics things will fall into place

Well--well that was an adventure, and I'm still just as lost as I was before I decided to follow through on that horrible course of action. I'll talk more about the lyrics and the song down below. 

Right, so this MV is just chock full of weird. As I stated earlier I love the dancing. I really do, and I hope they release a performance version. The rest of this though? Madness, and I will probably never watch this music video ever again. Nothing makes sense, even while knowing the lyrics.

SONG

I can't give 1/2 stars so I'm rounding up

I hate that this song is catchy. I wanted to dislike the damn thing because the music video is such a train wreck, but damn if that hook isn't catchy. Like....I know it's PURELY because so much English is peppered throughout the song. I know that has a major role in me liking this, but the overall beat and vibe for the rest of the song is also super catchy. Towards the end of my first listen I found myself bobbing along with the track. I honestly was moving back and forth ever so slightly and then caught myself and went 

"Shit"

Ignoring the English lyrics (of which the reference to the Kingsman movie series made me extremely happy) I think my Techno roots is really what was attracted to this song, and really NCT-127 in general. I have the same attachment to their Firetruck song because of the beat. The song just grows on me. Which is surprising because the chorus is just repetitive. Something that usually annoys me. 

That being said. While I do enjoy the song, I fully believe its because I can't understand a damn thing. It helps me appreciate the song that much more, because I focus on the tempo and vibe of the music instead of listening to what they are attempting to convey through the lryics. And honestly even though I read the lyrics I still can't comprehend what point they are trying to get across to their audience. I've read the lyrics multiple times and it's a lost cause in my opinion. All I'm able to gather is whoever wrote the song must have some seeeeeerious pent up sexual frustrations...dear Lord.

I don't know...maybe its the translation I found....maybe it really is that disoriented. Either way I'm going to choose to ignore the actual meaning to the song and just focus on the music.

Overall

I think overall most people will either love it or hate it. I can't see there being too many middle ground fans (like me) of the song. I'd love to hear everyone's opinion on the song.
